Mane of the Wind
Brethren of the Wind
SFX: throb... (x2)
2: Hey, are you OK?
box 2: Mitsumine Shrine
By the time I finished seeing the shrine, the ropeway service had already ended. (I didn't make it in time for the last car.) I had no choice but to walk down the 1332 meters of mountain. Most of the trail was pretty much vertical, it was getting dark, and it seemed like it was going to rain. Since the ground was so wet, I fell numerous times. I wasn't prepared for this!
2: Waterfall sound
box 3: One more hour left. Do your best!top left: It took about 90 minutes to reach the bottom.
1: I'm fine...
3: you're breaking out in a cold sweat!
4: Let's rest somewhere. You must just be exhausted.
6: Can you hear me?
2: I want to eat...
3: I want to chomp down on her thin neck
4: and drink the blood that squirts out.
5: I want to eat meat...
box 4: What? What am I thinking about?
7: Don't touch me, Hazumi!!
SFX: FWAP (x3)
1: Is something wrong?
2: Huh? Oh... I'm sorry.
1: What's wrong, Sakurako?
3: We should call an ambulance. He looks ghastly pale.
4: Yes, that isn't good...
6: Where did you get that stone?!
7: Oh no!
1: What are you...
1: You can't touch that stone!
2: Why not?
3: Can you two come to my house? Sakurako, call the car. There's something I need to talk to you two about.
2: I don't know how long you had that thing around your neck, but I'm surprised you didn't collapse from anemia.
3: What are you talking about?
4: Dr. Kitou! This really is a sunset stone!
5: It's a very high-quality...
1: Sunset Stone?
2: Seems like neither of you know anything about this stone.
3: Fine. Come this way.
4: Can you stand up?
5: This stone...
6: It's the same kind as the one you two have. I named it 'sunset stone.'
1: It's a very strange stone,
2: and I've never seen another like it.
3: If you put a dead animal or plant next to it,
4: it revives them in no time at all. On top of that, as unbelievable as it may sound, it alters the cells of the organisms, making them stronger creatures than they were before.
5: If these stones existed in a mine where they could be excavated,
6: humanity would acquire a power far greater than nuclear power...
1: A godlike power.
2: Doctor, are you sure we can talk to them about this?
3: It's fine. They brought us another stone, after all.
5: Just what kind of doctor are you?
6: I used to be a rather famous scholar, you know. I just got a little too wrapped up in researching this stone, and got thrown out of my university last year.
1: Now, I'm working with a much smaller team.
2: My assistants Yasukawa and Sakurako graciously come to help me for very meager salaries.
3: Would you mind... leaving this stone with me for a bit?
4: I'm sure it's priceless,
5: but it may be very dangerous for the human race.
6: Three years ago, when my friend happened to find one,
7: the stone ended up changing the construction of his body,
8: and he went insane and died.
1: I don't know why it happened.
2: I don't know why humans are the only ones to suffer that fate... But I want to find out.
3: You're travelers, aren't you?
4: You may stay here for as long as you like.
6: I beg you.
SFX: flap (x3)
box 1: That stone...
box 2: It's really that powerful?
box 3: Little by little, I'm learning more about Sou.
box 4: That stone probably drew sou to it with some strange power. Some power that only Sou can understand.
box 5: What am I so afraid of? We're gradually uncovering all the secrets...
box 6: That's why we departed on this journey in the first place.
box 2: Sou's eyes back there...
box 3: They were scary. I've never seen his eyes like that before. I feel like from now on, every time we discover something, we're going to be pulled farther and farther apart...
box 4: Sou...
box 5: Sou!
SFX: caaaw (x3)
1: Need something?
2: You're awake?
3: I was planning on waking you u.
4: How could I sleep
5: with all that noise?
1: They're just happy that you're here.
2: Your name is
3: Sakurako, right? What's your last name?
5: Magami Sakurako.
8: I remember reading once, in the Man'yoshu, how the Ookuchi-Magami was a wolf.
9: So that's why you smell
10: like a beast.
1: Are you a female wolf?!
4: I'm also your ally.
5: I came
6: to give this back to you.
1: Stop it...
2: What's wrong?
3: This belongs to you.
4: It's alright. Only humans go insane and die if they wear them.
5: This is the symbol of our clan. It's meant to protect us...
6: You should want to wear it, if you have beast blood.
7: You can feel your animal instincts awaken when you wear it, right? You can feel the wolf blood in your body come to a boil!
10: Put it on!
11: It's yours, Sou!!
2: aren't alone anymore...
3: We have many allies... many brethren.
4: Once we're finished here, we'll return to them.
1: Goodbye now, Hazumi.
2: I'm going out to collect data with Yasukawa, so take care of the house for us!
3: OK. Please have a safe trip.
1: Sou... Do you still feel ill?
2: What? ...Yeah.
3: You don't need to worry, Hazumi.
4: I'm watching over Sou.
1: ...If something happens,
2: please call me!
3: I want...
4: to eat...
5: At first,
6: it increases your animal instincts by a great amount all at once, so you can think of nothing but hunting. As soon as you get used to it, it'll go away.
9: We'll have to do something about her.
box 3: Who does she think she is? Ever since we met her, she's been clinging to Sou...
box 4: And what was Sou doing? Staring off into space and letting her touch his hair like that...
SFX: BZZZ (x3)
box 6: That's strange. I thought the pendant was inside that case...
box 1: What did Dr. Kitou do with it?
SFX: throb... (x2)
4: Don't scare me like that.
5: How are you feeling?
6: Where's Sakurako?
2: That... pendant...
2: Is he going to kill me?!
4: Stop it!
2: Sou... How could you...
1: Give me the stone.
3: Give it to me.
4: If you keep holding on to it, you'll die.
5: The stone?
box 1: It's a mysterious stone...
box 2: And incredibly dangerous.
2: Don't tell me this...
4: Who... are you?
5: Let go of the stone, Hazumi. It's dangerous!
4: Fine. Let her. We'll just watch and see what happens
5: when a normal human holds on to one of those.
